Recovery, grown in the garden
From Genesis onward, work has been part of how God shapes His people. At House of Debra, every resident shares in the daily rhythm of planting, harvesting, and animal care — honest labor that rebuilds routine, responsibility, and self-respect.
Work was never the punishment — it's part of the cure
Addiction strips away routine, purpose, and follow-through. A garden won't let you skip a day and still expect a harvest. That honesty — plant, tend, wait, reap — is exactly the lesson many residents never learned anywhere else.
Restores Routine
Daily farm chores happen on a fixed schedule, rebuilding the discipline of showing up — every day, rain or shine.
Builds Dignity
Seeing a planted row become a meal on the table gives residents visible, tangible proof that their effort matters.
Grows Community
Shared labor side by side breaks down isolation — one of addiction's favorite hiding places.
Planting & Harvesting
Residents take turns preparing beds, planting seasonal vegetables, weeding and watering, and bringing in the harvest. What's grown helps feed the House of Debra household — connecting daily labor directly to daily provision.

Lessons in patience, faithfulness, and stewardship
“Whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.”
Galatians 6:7 — the verse residents hear most often while standing in the garden rows.
Gentle hands, gentle hearts
Caring for an animal that depends entirely on you teaches a kind of patience and gentleness that addiction recovery depends on just as much as any classroom lesson.
Animal Care
Daily animal duties — feeding, watering, cleaning, and tending livestock and poultry — teach residents consistency and responsibility in a way no lecture can. An animal doesn't care about excuses; it just needs to be fed, every single day, on time.
Rotating daily responsibility for feeding and care
Fixed morning and evening duty schedule
Staff-supervised, safety-first animal handling
Help us grow what helps residents grow
House of Debra relies on gifts of land, tools, seed, feed, and livestock as much as financial support. If you have agricultural resources to give, we'd love to talk.
Give Farm Equipment
Tools, tractors, fencing, and irrigation supplies extend what residents can grow and raise.
Donate Livestock or Feed
In-kind animal donations directly support our animal care program.
Volunteer on the Farm
Skilled farmers and gardeners are welcome to volunteer time and mentorship.
